The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People
Habit 1: Be Proactive
"Habit 1 is the key to unlocking all the other habits and that's why it comes first. It says, "I am the caption of my life. I can choose my attitude . I'm responsible for my own happiness or unhappiness. I am in the driver's seat of my destiny, not just a passenger."
Quote: A leadership culture is one where everyone thinks like an owner, a CEO or a managing director. It's one where everyone is entrepreneurial and proactive.
Robin S. Sharma
Reflection:what this quote is saying is that be proactive is good because if you want to be proactive you have to be a calm person and be in control of you're life and let someone else be in control of it. like the first quote said you have to be the front seat driver and not a passenger. this is what this quote is trying to say about being a proactive person.
Habit 2:Begin with the end in mind
"Control your own destiny or someone else will." - Jack Welch
Reflection: Applying this habit is very beneficial in your life whether it is in class, at work, or in anyway particular. By this quote, Covey means to start your day with a mind set of what you want to accomplish that day. It makes a sculpture of how your day will be for the sake of how you want it to actually end. For example, metaphorically speaking you envision yourself climbing a ladder that you built, but when you actually start to build it and you choose wrong pieces to it, it will not help you climb. This is meaning if you chose to do thing the wrong way in your life choices it can put a pause for your goal and take longer to achieve. It would be better if you envision it and do everything right the first way around.
Habit 3:Put First Things First
"Organize and execute around priorities"
Reflection: In life we should always prioritize whats to our benefit for a good life. Its like the abc's, it has a order that it should be in. Our life choices should also be arranged because its for our future. For a teenager its hard not to resist the outside world that has many fun and exciting things. But for us that is hard. Putting school first and doing your work is one of those choices that we should put first because its our future that it holds. Lets say, one night you have a party they invited you to and everyone's going, but you have to do your homework too. This is one of those choices that determines your future. This is the type of priorities you put in your life. My teacher says "two marshmallows" which is a figurative language that says "we give you one marshmallow now and you can eat it or not eat the marshmallow and later on you get
another marshmallow meaning you get two for waiting.
Habit 4: Think Win-Win
"Think win-win or no deal"
Reflection: Reflection: I believe what the quote "think win-win or no deal" means that you have to think of a way in which everyone comes out winning in the situation rather than just one winner. If one person gets the win, then it wouldn't be a fair deal. I ponder on this because everything should be paid by effort and not by a number or trophy. Its good to think about the success of oneself but showing your character by being caring shows better sportsmanship than anything else. Even when your enemy kicks you down, you shouldn't do the same. You should help them up, yes many people are very resilient to what happens in their life but being revengeful isn't a satisfying feeling. It just makes a hole deeper. A situation would be that there are two race track runners, Bob and David, both who work extremely hard to get first place. Unfortunately, there is only one winner and that is Bob. David becomes very jealous that he doesn't get recognition and only Bob does, even if they work equally as hard. The right thing for Bob to do was accept the win but a win for David too even though he did not come first materialistically. Moral of the story, take a win-win or no one will.
Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, then to be Understood
"diagnose before you prescribe."
Reflection:
A doctor before prescribing any type of medication, needs to look and diagnose, to make sure the medicine prescribed is the correct one for the kind of sickness or need its intended for. If given the wrong prescription to the person without a diagnose they can have severe health problems or can die according to what is needed. This example goes for any situation in a person. If you give someone advice they don't need or incorrect, then that person's life ethics or morals can go down a drain because of the wrong advice one gives. We need to understand ones life in order for them to understand us. It is better to understand the person than to be understood in the wrong conditions.
Habit 6: Synergize
"The whole is greater than the sum of its parts (1+1=3)"
Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw
Four dimensions of renewal: Physical, mental, spiritual, social/emotional
