10 Keys to Personal Power

The 10 Keys to Personal Power
Brian Tracy

Key 1: Clarity
"Have vision. Determine what you want to be, do or have in life in life. Have a sense of direction and know where you're going. If you do not have clear specific goals in life, you are doomed forever to work for others who do."
Reflection: People who have a clear mindset of their future are the ones to usually be the most successful in life. Those nebulous decisions that are in your life are the ones to blockading you to not being successful. Picture yourself doing what you want and do something about it. Just watching your goals pass by you is a waste of life. Humanity is all about being happy and pursing something you enjoy in life. Distancing yourself from that only makes things more unclear and somber.

Key 2: Competence
"If you commit to excellence, opportunities will always come your way. The harder you work, the better you get."
If you commit too doing something you would enjoy what you are doing and love the work. you must enjoy what you love doing if u commit too what you're doing for example you're homework or you're classwork or job these a some of the things you have to put in work to have commitment in them they are very important.

Key 3: Concentration
"Make the best use of your time. Ask yourself "Is this the best use of my time?' before you start anything."

Key 4:

Key 5: Creativity
"Except the fact that every human being is a genius. The hallmark of creativity is asking questions. The people who are most creative ask the most questions."
Reflection: Everyone has a different way of thinking. We cant have a group of ten people and include just one idea. There are multiply ways of solving a problem and depending on the person, that is how they will handle it. You cant make someone think like you, this world would be very banal if it did. Throughout history there has been many people who have become famous because they do not go how everyone want to. Those people are the ones to achieve something in life. They go outside of the box. In the moment they are seen as rebellious but are the ones to impact society and change how the community or society see things. So, expressing your creativity makes every individual special. There are multiple ways of expressing creativity, and that is showing yourself and what you are one the inside.

Key 6: Consideration
"The quality of your relationship with other people will determine your success in life."

"Develop the people skills you need to become a better communicator. Take courses in listening, speaking, etc."

"If you were to learn one new word a day, within 5 years, you'll be the best educated person in history."

Reflection: Take many things into consideration taking things in to consideration is a very good thing. this will later on help you in life by helping you in school or work. this is also probably gonna make you're life better and help many different ways. that is why you should take thing in too consideration.

Key 7: Consistency

"Dependable, steady predictable work is always superior to fast spurts of work."

"Be consistent in your relationships, your family, friends, your boss, your work. Be the person that people can depend upon. That if you say you'll do something you do it."

Reflection:

Key 8: Commitment
"No success is possible without commitment. The ability to commit yourself whole heartily is the basis of achieving all success."

"Become totally absorbed in your work. Be totally committed."

Key 9: Courage
"The fear for failure is the single greatest reason for failure in life."

Key 10: Confidence
"You only get confidence by doing things over and over again."

The Seven Habits

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

Habit 1: Be Proactive
"Habit 1 is the key to unlocking all the other habits and that's why it comes first. It says, "I am the caption of my life. I can choose my attitude . I'm responsible for my own happiness or unhappiness. I am in the driver's seat of my destiny, not just a passenger."

Quote: A leadership culture is one where everyone thinks like an owner, a CEO or a managing director. It's one where everyone is entrepreneurial and proactive.
Robin S. Sharma

Reflection:what this quote is saying is that be proactive is good because if you want to be proactive you have to be a calm person and be in control of you're life and let someone else be in control of it. like the first quote said you have to be the front seat driver and not a passenger. this is what this quote is trying to say about being a proactive person.

Habit 2:Begin with the end in mind
"Control your own destiny or someone else will." - Jack Welch

Reflection: Applying this habit is very beneficial in your life whether it is in class, at work, or in anyway particular. By this quote, Covey means to start your day with a mind set of what you want to accomplish that day. It makes a sculpture of how your day will be for the sake of how you want it to actually end. For example, metaphorically speaking you envision yourself climbing a ladder that you built, but when you actually start to build it and you choose wrong pieces to it, it will not help you climb. This is meaning if you chose to do thing the wrong way in your life choices it can put a pause for your goal and take longer to achieve. It would be better if you envision it and do everything right the first way around.

Habit 3:Put First Things First
"Organize and execute around priorities"
Reflection: In life we should always prioritize whats to our benefit for a good life. Its like the abc's, it has a order that it should be in. Our life choices should also be arranged because its for our future. For a teenager its hard not to resist the outside world that has many fun and exciting things. But for us that is hard. Putting school first and doing your work is one of those choices that we should put first because its our future that it holds. Lets say, one night you have a party they invited you to and everyone's going, but you have to do your homework too. This is one of those choices that determines your future. This is the type of priorities you put in your life. My teacher says "two marshmallows" which is a figurative language that says "we give you one marshmallow now and you can eat it or not eat the marshmallow and later on you get
another marshmallow meaning you get two for waiting.

Habit 4: Think Win-Win
"Think win-win or no deal"
Reflection: Reflection: I believe what the quote "think win-win or no deal" means that you have to think of a way in which everyone comes out winning in the situation rather than just one winner. If one person gets the win, then it wouldn't be a fair deal. I ponder on this because everything should be paid by effort and not by a number or trophy. Its good to think about the success of oneself but showing your character by being caring shows better sportsmanship than anything else. Even when your enemy kicks you down, you shouldn't do the same. You should help them up, yes many people are very resilient to what happens in their life but being revengeful isn't a satisfying feeling. It just makes a hole deeper. A situation would be that there are two race track runners, Bob and David, both who work extremely hard to get first place. Unfortunately, there is only one winner and that is Bob. David becomes very jealous that he doesn't get recognition and only Bob does, even if they work equally as hard. The right thing for Bob to do was accept the win but a win for David too even though he did not come first materialistically. Moral of the story, take a win-win or no one will.

Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, then to be Understood
"diagnose before you prescribe."
Reflection:
A doctor before prescribing any type of medication, needs to look and diagnose, to make sure the medicine prescribed is the correct one for the kind of sickness or need its intended for. If given the wrong prescription to the person without a diagnose they can have severe health problems or can die according to what is needed. This example goes for any situation in a person. If you give someone advice they don't need or incorrect, then that person's life ethics or morals can go down a drain because of the wrong advice one gives. We need to understand ones life in order for them to understand us. It is better to understand the person than to be understood in the wrong conditions.

Habit 6: Synergize
"The whole is greater than the sum of its parts (1+1=3)"

Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw
Four dimensions of renewal: Physical, mental, spiritual, social/emotional

Three Fundamental Techniques in Handling People

Three Fundamental Techniques in Handling people
Technique 1:Don't Criticize, condemn or complain.
"If you want to gather honey, don't kick over the beehive"
  • Technique is trying saying that instead of complaining you should show graduated for what you have be grateful and thankful because not that many people have a lot of the things that some of us have they are less fortunate

Technique 2: Give honest and sincere appreciation
"The big secret in dealing with people"
  •  This is trying to say that the best way to deal with people is to be honest with them. show appreciation to them when they are talking and do not interrupt them. Be a good listener because if you're kind to them they will be kind back. they will also be listening to what you have to say. This is one of the easiest and the big secret in dealing with people
Technique 3: Arouse in the other person an eager want.
"He who can do this has the whole world with him. He who cannot , walks a lonely way."
  • When talking to someone you should always leave a mark on them to make them remember you. When you’re gone they will feel a type of emptiness inside since you were so nice and understanding to them. Talking to them again will arouse an eager to talk to you more and be around you more.

Class/Self Evaluation

Class/Self Evaluation

Some things that I liked about this class were that I get to use technology and I really don't have to write anything down on paper. Some things i didn't like about the class was that it's boring. Things that I would suggest to improve the class are having better music and having more free time. No, I didn't really try my best in this class. I am not commited top being a CTR person because I sometimes do the wrong thing knowing i could've done the right thing.

Six ways to Make People Like You

Six Ways to Make People Like You
Rule 1: Become genuinely interested in other people
"Do this and you will be welcome anywhere."
"You can make more friends in two months by becomng interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you."
"Ask questions to other people, questions that they would enjoy answering."
  • Reflection: This new rule is saying that you should become interested in what other people enjoy doing and what they like instead of trying to get them to like what you like. For example, if you want someone to be your friend, you should ask them what they like to do and try to become interested in the same topic. This way you guys have something in common and you guys will become friends that way.
  • To apply this new rule i will become genuiely interested in other people.
Rule 2: Smile
"Actions speak louder than words, and a smile says, "I like you. You make me happy. I am glad to see you."
"You don't feel like smiling? Then force yourself to smile."
"It creates happiness in the home, fosters good will in a business, and is the countersign (witness or indication) of friends."

  • Quote: "Let my soul smile through my heartand my heart smile through my eyes, that I may scatter smiles in sad hearts
  • Reflection: This means that you should smile at people more often to show that you are happy to see them.  what this quote is trying to say is smile no matter what because smiling is a good thing. you will be much more of a like able person. people would want to be your friend because they will find you friendly and a very, very like able person. so you should smile and live a happy life because all life is precious.
Rule 3: Remembering names
"A man's name is to him the sweetest and most important sound in any language."
"If you don't remember names, you are headed for trouble."

Quote:Forgive your enemies, but never forget their names.
John F. Kennedy

Reflection: This quote is trying to say to be kind to you're enemy's and too forgive them but to remember their names because its very important to remember. Also if that if you remember someone name because it will make them remember you're name. They will want to be come friends with you because you know them and your kind to them. They will and would want to be your friend because having friends is the best thing you can ever have and they are very fun and funny people to have around you.

How to Remember names

  • meet and repeat
  • spell it out
  • associate
  • make connections
  • choose to care
Rule 4: Be a good listener. Encourage others to talk about themselves
"If you aspire to be a good conversationalist, be an attentive listener."
"Remember that the man you are  talking to is a hundred times more interested in himself and his wants and his problems than he is in you and your problems."
  • Quote: No siren did ever so charm the ear of the listener as the listening ear has charmed the soul of the siren. - Henry Taylor
  • Reflection: This rule is stating that you can make people like you because you are listening to what they have to say which means you are showing interest in them. ON the other hand, if you only talk about yourself and don't let them speak they will think you're selfish.
Rule 5: Talk in terms of the other man's interest.
"The royal road to a man's heart is to talk to him about the things he treasures most."
Reflection: If when talking to another person the only way a conversation will be interesting between the two will be when you talk about something the other person loves. It will automatically be boring if the other person hears you blabber about things that they don't like. If you don't know nothing on that subject, spend the day or night researching what it is so you can have an insight on the things that interests them. Starting a conversation about their interests will bring up enthusiasm in the conversation.
Rule 6: Make the other person feel important- and do it sincerely.
"The desire to be important is the deepest urge in human nature."
"Helping people feel important and appreciated works magic."

  • Quote:  Whenever you go out-of-doors, draw the chin in, carry the crown of the head high, and fill the lungs to the utmost; drink in the sunshine; greet your friends with a smile, and put soul into every handclasp. Do not fear being misunderstood and do not waste a minute thinking about your enemies. Try to fix firmly in your mind what you would like to do; and then, without veering off direction, you will move straight to the goal. Keep your mind on the great and splendid things you would like to do, and then, as the days go gliding away, you will find yourself unconsciously seizing upon the opportunities that are required for the fulfillment of your desire.

Overall Reflection: These six ways will make people like you because they will like that you are interested in them and that you talk about what interests them. Also because you will always smile at them and because you actually listen to what they say.

Six Additudes of High Achievers

High Achievers...
1). Make no small plans

  • Reflection: You should always aim for the highest point. Once you do that you have to make a plan for how you will get there and wok hard to achiev your goal and execute your plan. For example, if i want to graduate from college, my plan is to get really good grades in school so I could get scholarships for college so i won't have to pay anything. Next, I would get good grades in college until i graduate.
  • To apply this new attitude i will aim for the highest standard in school.
  • An example of a high achiever is NBA star Stephen Curry. He aimed to be in the NBA and worked really hard to achieve his goal. He would always practice harder and more time than everybody else until he had perfect for on every shot.
2. Do what they fear
  • Reflection: This means to do what you are scared to do. In other words to face your fears.
  • To apply this new attitude I will face my fears.
3. Are willing to prepare
4. Are willing to risk failure
  • Reflection:  This attitude means you will risk to fail in order to succeed in what you are doing. For example, if you want to be a NFL star you have to take the risk of getting hurt and getting hit hard.
  • To apply this new attitude i will take risks in life to achieve what i want
5. Are teachable
  • Reflection:This attitude means that you have to be willing to learn even if you already know lots of stuff.
  •  To apply this I will be more open minded and willing to learn as much as i can.
6. have heart
  • Reflection:Having heart is a good thing because when you have heart you are a kind and heart warming person. and willing to help someone in need of your help and that is what having heart is mostly about.
  • Quote: Throughout life people will make you mad, disrespect you and treat you bad. Let God deal with the things they do, cause hate in your heart will consume you too.
Overall Reflection:These attitudes will help me because if I have these attitudes i will succeed in life. For example, being teachable will help me because I will learn more and more even if i still know a lot of information.
